Short version: the site uses no cookies and no tracking. The tool runs in your browser and saves nothing. We only process personal data when you ask for the free checklist, buy the guide or write to us.

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, Cloudflare processes technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested. Our own request logs are kept for a few days for troubleshooting and then deleted automatically. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a secure website (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Fonts are served from this site, not from Google or any other third party.
We do not use cookies, advertising pixels or tracking scripts that follow you. A few small things are stored in your own browser (localStorage) and never sent to us: light or dark theme, the currency you chose (euro or dollar) and your score in today's game. You can delete them at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
To know whether the site is useful, it counts a few things in aggregate: pages viewed, how many people start and finish the tool and the game, and, when you arrive, the kind of site you came from (for example Instagram, a search engine or an AI assistant). What we store is a number per day, such as "12 tools completed on 7 October". No IP address, no cookie, no identifier and none of your answers: nothing in it can be linked to you. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site works (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Your answers in the tool are processed entirely in your browser. They are not sent to us, not stored and not linked to you. When you finish, the only thing that reaches us is that one more person finished it.
Payments are handled by Stripe, which acts as the reseller (merchant of record) for the purchase and processes your name, email address, billing details and payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive from Stripe only what we need to deliver the guide: your email address, the purchase reference and whether it was paid. Legal basis: performance of the contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
The download link is sent to your email address through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France, EU). The link stops working 30 days after purchase.
If you ask for the checklist, the free chapter or your budget list, we use your email address to send it to you, then three short emails over the following nine days (one surprising number, the most expensive mistakes, and the guide), and after that only now and then, when the figures change or a new business is added. Your address is stored in our contact list at Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, France, EU), and the address with the date you signed up, the budget you typed and which of the three emails went out is kept in a database on Cloudflare to send the series on time. Legal basis: your consent (art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you give with the tick box and can withdraw at any time: use the unsubscribe link in any email, or reply and ask. We never share the list with anyone.
If you use the form on the websites page, we receive your name, email address, the business and anything you write in the message, as an email in our inbox. We use it only to reply to your request and, if you go ahead, to build the site. A confirmation is sent to you through Brevo. Legal basis: steps you asked for before a possible contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). If nothing comes of it, we delete the request within six months.
If you make a free preview, we keep what you typed (business name, offers, prices, links, a review) and your email address in a database on Cloudflare, to show your preview page and to email you the link. The page is not listed on search engines. Legal basis: steps you asked for before a possible contract (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Ask us and we delete it; otherwise previews that do not become a project are deleted after six months.
If you comment a budget under one of our posts, an automatic reply may answer with businesses that fit it. To avoid answering twice, we keep the comment's id, the number and the date, nothing else. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in answering the question you asked in public (art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If you join, we keep your first name, email address, your code and the date you joined, in a database on Cloudflare, so we can send you your link and pay your rewards. Legal basis: the agreement you enter by joining (art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Ask us any time and we delete it, unless a reward is still being paid. If you arrive through an ambassador's link, your browser keeps only that code (in session storage, cleared when you close the tab) so the website form can apply the discount.
If you email us, your message and address are stored in our mailbox (Zoho Mail, EU data centre) for as long as needed to answer you and handle any follow-up.
Some links to tools are affiliate links. When you click one you leave this site; the other website may use its own cookies under its own policy. We do not pass them any personal data about you.
We never sell personal data. Where a provider processes data outside the European Economic Area (Cloudflare and Stripe may do so in the United States), the transfer relies on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. Write to info@startmargin.com; we answer within one month. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, or to the authority in your own country.
